Detours in Education
Planning for college or other education courses will be much less expensive when you plan what is needed to get you where you want to be. If you don’t plan for this journey you could spend time and money on courses that are not needed or that may take you in a wrong direction. https://www.tellearning.org/6-tips-for-planning-your-life-learning-journey/
I went back to finish my degree when I was in my 40’s. There was a lot of planning that was involved. I wanted to finish in less than 2 years. This was one of my Mountains to Molehills that I implemented to get where I wanted to be in my time frame.
- Get transcripts.
- Research colleges that offered accelerated classes that met in person and not on line.
- Meet with the colleges to see if they would take all of my previous credits –In the End this saved me a lot of time and money by knowing this information.
- Meet with my employer to discuss my plans – Bonus he offered to pay half my costs. Most of my college was paid for by my employers. A huge benefit!
- Plan my courses and workload – I gave up a lot during this time but I stayed focused because my main priority was to finish on time with good grades.
Think about steps you can take to move your mountain into a molehill.
Bucket List
I was able to mark a large item off of my bucket list. This was a goal I had set for myself years earlier. I let things detour me and I lost my path. But, I righted my sails and began to move along again. By planning and staying focused I was able to reach my goal with more intention. I have no regrets on completing this life time goal.
Planning can help us stay organized. It can minimalize what we have, and keep us from accumulating things that do not serve a purpose. I love Joshua Becker’s definition of minimalism.
“It is the intentional promotion of the things we most value and the removal of anything that distracts us from it”.

Remember we are all on a different journey. Sometimes our journey will take us on highways that we share with others and sometimes our journey will take us on a back country road or trail that is far less traveled. You may seem alone and sometimes lost. It is then that we develop and grow. Psalm 37:23 The LORD makes firm the steps of the one who delights in him.
